Travel Tip Tuesday: Creating a Playlist of Your Trip

Studying abroad in Spain meant many long nights of dancing in clubs to Spanish music (and actually a lot of English music). After I left for home, I found myself really missing that scene, so I decided to make a nostalgia playlist. Now I have a fantastic list on my iPod that I can listen to anytime and reminisce about nights wandering around Santiago de Compostela’s bar scene.

Here are a few videos from my list!

(Yes, Gangnam Style was popular when I studied abroad, and every club played it on repeat!)

What are some popular songs from your travels?

Travel Tip Tuesday: Travel Blogs to Check Out for Inspiration

These are a few of my favorite travel blogs, ones that I always look to for inspiration and wanderlust ideas! They’ve all got such wonderful content that makes me feel so inadequate and inexperienced in comparison. Check them out and add some more in the comment section! I’m always looking for more.

Travel Tip Tuesday: Manicuring Before Takeoff

I admit it, I’m a huge nail polish fanatic. I take full advantage of Ulta’s $3.50 off $10 purchase at least once a month and buy myself a new OPI, eagerly applying it as soon as I get home. My boyfriend even built me a nail polish rack for Christmas last year! And, as I write this, I’m taking a break to apply a bright red manicure. Love it.

So, you would think that before I jet off I make sure that my nails look in top shape with a gorgeous color.

You’d be wrong!

When it comes to nail polish, I highly recommend that girls DON’T give themselves a manicure before they leave. Sure, it’ll look great the first couple days but after that it’ll start chipping. Personally I hate it when my manicure isn’t perfect – the smallest chip will make me wipe it all off and start over. I’d hate it even more if I had to deal with it while traveling and I’m not going to drag a bottle around with me the whole time. I once had a bottle break and get all over the inside of my cosmetic bag – that’s not happening again.

I do recommend applying a nourishing clear coat – something easy to apply that isn’t noticeable when it chips. It looks classy and goes with every outfit. If you want to take the bottle with you, store it in its own little snack baggie or you might be sorry!

The only time I’d recommend vacationing with a manicure is if it’s an acrylic or gel manicure done by a professional, so you won’t have to worry about chipping while you travel.

Happy travels!

Travel Tip Tuesday: How I Organize for a Trip

Scan0005

I’m the ultimate organizer. I can’t stand not knowing what’s going on when I get somewhere or not having an itinerary. This past summer we took a family trip to Australia for 5 weeks and naturally my first instinct was to download June and July calendars, print them, and pencil in a potential schedule. Unfortunately my mom wrote off my ideas right away – visiting family meant we wouldn’t have too much control over what we did and when! You can see from the picture above that she eventually took it over.

So, this is how I organized us for the trip (even though it didn’t mean anything) and how I’ve done it in the past.

Step 1: Make a calendar for your trip’s timeline. As I said, since this was a looong trip I would have printed off a blank calendar online and filled out where I’d be and when I’d arrive/depart. So, first three weeks in Melbourne, 4th week in Sydney, 5th week in Darwn.

Step 2: Do research on the city you’re visiting. I look up advice on blogs and travel websites for museums, restaurants, and sights. I would write everything down I’m interested in doing and also the price. Another tip is to write down the potential temperatures for each day you’re going, as you can see I’ve done above.

Step 3: Fill in your calendar using pencil. I can’t tell you how many times I “rescheduled” visiting the Sydney Opera House because it conflicted with lunch at someone’s house. Take your calendar around with you in case you stumble upon a new plan to pencil in, too.

This is my best way to keep myself organized and sane! I love having an itinerary – especially if I’m traveling alone, which means I get to do what I want when I want and get the full satisfaction of organizing it all into a calendar.

Travel Tip Tuesday: Toiletry Bag Organization!

Today I got a new toiletry bag for my carry on, which seems to be the ultimate bag for my necessities. It’s a Ricardo bag found at Bed Bath and Beyond and it’s made with water resistant fabric. Even though my Australia trip is a couple months away, I like to have my toiletry case ready to go at anytime! So, here is how I organized my new bag!
